Free Marketing

Here’s a step-by-step on how you set it up better than other businesses.

What’s the first thing you do when you want to find a good pizza place?

You google ‘pizza places near me’ and then you usually go to the first place that shows up.

If you’re not sold already, let me mention that most businesses don’t even know about this or haven’t registered their own business.

Without even knowing it, these businesses are put into a position where no one can find them and even if they have it online they usually rank low in the search.

Lantz, you’re killing me with suspense. How do I do free marketing?

‘Google My Business’.

FYI you can see if your business is on GMB if you search up your business name, if you're on a PC, it should look like this:

Step-By-Step Guide

Go to ‘www.google.com/business and click ‘Manage now’

Make sure you’re using your business profile in your browser (top right).

Enter your business’s name

What if my name is already there?

If your business is already there, then go to Google Maps and find your business there. Click where it says ‘claim this business’ and claim it, you should receive an email from Google.

3 things could happen:

1.

The current ‘owner’ grants you access. Yippie you can access your GMB now.

2.

The current ‘owner’ doesn’t reply. No problem, just check your emails and claim it 3 days after you’ve sent the request.

3.

The current ‘owner’ declines the request. Don’t stress, you can ask Google to send a physical mail to the business’s address and you can then verify it.

You might be tempted to create a new business even when you see yours there but trust me it's going to cause problems later.

Annoying? I know right but let's move on…

Pick a Company type (You can choose multiple)

Enter your business type (You can only enter one category)

Enter your store's physical address

If you aren't a physical store, don’t worry you can hide this afterwards but this is just incase you lose access to your email address and want to claim your store again like I mentioned earlier.

Enter your business’s phone number and website (Optional but advised)

Add your services

(You can add multiple)

I would recommend you add your own services instead of just the ones provided by Google but make sure they’re good for SEO (put simply, use 1-3 words instead of a whole sentence).

Opening times

Describe your company

I would recommend a description of what you do and what sets you apart from other businesses.

Add photos

What photos do I add?

  • Logo

  • Cover Photo

  • Exterior Photos

  • Interior Photos

  • Product or Service Photos

  • Menu photos if you're a restaurant

  • Team Photos (optional)

General Tips:

Don’t take pictures with a Nokia phone, it’s really annoying when businesses use low-quality photos.

I’m not saying you should buy a €2000 camera but just make them look decent and if you really want you can go to ‘www.vectorizer.ai’ to make them higher quality.

Use photos that your ideal customer would want to see.

Last but not least… Remember the saying “less is more”?

Throw that out the window, Google loves it when you have a lot of photos but don’t just add pictures for the sake of adding more.

We’re almost done!

Just speed run through here.

But, there's a catch, you only get the €400 after you've put in the €400.

And yes I would also recommend you ‘Try Google Workspace’, I personally use it to this day.

(Mainly to have a business email.)

When you're done, it should look like this:

You can now change it up to look any way you like and get creative.

BTW, ‘GoOgLe’, no I didn’t mean OPPitz!

FAQs

Q: Are Google ads the best ads?

A: Yes and no, let me explain… It all depends on where your ideal customers are searching for you.

For example, if you’re a pizza shop then yes but if you’re a club then I wouldn’t recommend that you advertise on Google but instead on Meta.

Q: How important is the information I put on Google?

A: Very important that it’s the correct information, you don’t want people leaving bad reviews because you never added your open times for example.

Q: Can I add multiple locations too with one account?

A: Yes you can and if you’re a franchise, I would recommend it.

Q: How often should I update my profile?

A: As often as possible, Google is positively biased to businesses which are constantly active with their GMB.

What now?

Make it look nice, something your ideal customer would want to see.

Even though you might not be at the top of the search results yet, that’s no problem.

You're still ahead of most of the competition now (depending on your niche).

Just wait for people to review your store and always reply to the reviews (no matter if it’s 5 stars or 1 star).

OR

You can run Google ads which will bring you higher in the search engine, I would advise this if you're in the right niche because most people when searching ‘pizza places near me’ click on the top 3 results.
